Friday, November 8, 1:00 p.m.
The Lucile A. Robertson Center at the Salado Museum, 423 South Main Street
Presented by the Salado Museum and the Salado Public Library
Scottish singer and folklorist, Ed Miller, will present a one-hour lecture in word, song and slides on the history and beauty of The Scottish Borders, an enthralling landscape between Scotland and England, on Friday, Nov. 8, at 1:00 pm in The Lucile A. Robertson Center at the Salado Museum.
Ed will showcase an area of Scotland very different from the “Highland” image so familiar to the American public. From rolling hills and moorland to gentle valleys and a picturesque coast line, the Borders is a distinct part of the country with its own unique history.
The Borders is also the subject of many of Scotland’s greatest ballads, including those collected by Sir Walter Scott and James Hogg. As Ed’s family background is in the Borders, its history, landscape and songs are very close to his heart. Ed Miller is a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, who came to Texas as a young man and has made Austin his home. He holds a graduate degree in Folklore and Geography from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to having recorded nine CDs of Scottish songs, he is a teacher, speaker, lecturer, radio host and leader of historical tours of Scotland.
